We are in San Severino Marche, on the right bank of the Potenza River, at the point where the valley it carves begins to open up. This city, with a predominantly agricultural and commercial vocation, is a treasure trove rich in works of art, historic buildings, and castles. From its oldest nucleus, known as the Castle, you can enjoy an unparalleled view of the hills crowned by small villages and the countryside dotted with small farmhouses.
Our bike itinerary starts from the beautiful town square, and through its ancient streets, we climb up an old mule track until we reach the Castle. Afterwards, we cross the small village and take a country road that, through a series of ups and downs, leads us to the old hamlet of Castello di Colleluce, an ancient village that overlooks the valley.
At this point, the itinerary takes us to explore a series of hills in the Potenza River valley, passing through the village of Parolito, where we stop to admire the grandeur of the Roman Bridge. Even today, this bridge is crossed by the Civitanova Marche - Fabriano railway line, with a station in San Severino Marche. This is an advantage for those who want to use it as an intermodal service to reach the hinterland or, conversely, the Adriatic Sea.
Our itinerary concludes when we return to the beautiful town square of San Severino Marche.
