Pyre rises at the foot of Mount San Vicino (1479 meters above sea level) and is located atop a hill at an altitude of 516 meters above sea level, on the border between the provinces of Macerata and Ancona. It has a population of 2497 inhabitants. Its territory extends for approximately 54 square kilometers and borders the municipalities of Cupramontana, Cingoli, San Severino Marche, Matelica, Poggio San Vicino, and Serra San Quirico. Despite its apparent decentralization, the city is well connected by roads and public services to the nearest major centers in the region: Jesi is 25 km away, Fabriano and Macerata are 42 km away, and Ancona, the regional capital, is 54 km away. It is also only 38 km away from Ancona Airport.
Nestled between Lake Castreccioni and Mount San Vicino, Apiro enjoys a magnificent panorama. The lake, in fact, is a large artificial reservoir that has become an important tourist destination over the years, and Mount San Vicino is an unmistakable landmark of the Central Apennines, which has always been an integral part of Apiro's skyline.
Its territory, typically hilly, stretches between the valleys of the Esino and Musone rivers, enclosed by the chain of the Sibillini Mountains and the other hills of the Cingoli area. Its historic center, rich in artworks, is fortified by castle walls, while the surrounding area is of significant environmental interest.
