Welcome to
Ancona

The village...On the northern tip of the Conero promontory, Ancona rises, embracing a natural harbour and dominating a wide stretch of the Adriatic coastline.

The historic core of the city, near the ferry embarkation point, preserves works of art, sumptuous residences and a lively energy typical of port centres.

The city area is dotted with numerous beaches, some with higher coastal profiles, others lower. Among the former, the central beach of Passetto stands out, characterised by imposing white rocks, among which the Seggiola del Papa and the scoglio del Quadrato are notable. Heading south, rocky beaches follow one another, among which the striking Mezzavalle beach stands out. Also famous is Portonovo (Blue Flag), south of Ancona, with coastal stretches alternating gravel and pebbles, and smooth, white limestone pebbles, prized as one of the special features of the place. The presence of woods directly on the beach, together with the fascinating views of the imposing Conero massif, adds further charm to this area.

To the north of the port of Ancona, the coastal profile lowers, and here is the sandy beach of Palombina, divided between free and equipped areas. While to the south-west of the port, the modern tourist dock extends, equipped with numerous piers offering berths for 1,200 boats (Marina Dorica, Approdo Bandiera Blu).

Passeggiando...

The Cathedral of San Ciriaco stands as the most representative icon of the city of Ancona. This magnificent basilica, in Romanesque-Gothic style with Byzantine influences, stands on the ancient foundations of an Italic temple dating back to the 4th century B.C. and a later early Christian church.

Among the sights of interest are several not-to-be-missed sites: the Church of Santa Maria della Piazza, a masterpiece of Romanesque art with its façade adorned with small arches and symbolic sculptures around the portal; the Arch of Trajan, an imposing structure erected in the 1st century AD. ; the Church of San Francesco alle Scale, characterised by its elegant façade in Venetian Gothic style; the Mole Vanvitelliana, a splendid artificial island with a pentagonal profile within the port, designed by the papal architect Luigi Vanvitelli; the Loggia dei Mercanti, an important civil building in Venetian Gothic style; the suggestive Fontana del Calamo, also known as the Fontana delle Tredici Cannelle, whose name recalls its ancient Greek origins and the marshy environment in which it once stood.

Also not to be missed are the Pinacoteca Comunale, which houses a valuable collection of works of art including masterpieces by Carlo Crivelli, Titian, Lorenzo Lotto and Guercino; the Museo Archeologico Nazionale delle Marche, which recounts the prehistoric and protohistoric history of the Marche region; the Omero Tactile Museum, a unique experience that allows even the most.
