Mogliano's Sanctuary of SS. Crocifisso is located on the Provincial Road 72 and takes its name from a 15th-century fresco depicting the Crucified Christ rising from his tomb, surrounded by angels. The church, in Neoclassical style, was designed by the renowned artist Giuseppe Lucatelli in 1809, year in which it was also declared a Sanctuary by royal decree.
Originally, the votive niche and its miraculous fresco, particularly revered by the people of Mogliano, were located next to a public fountain called Fonte del Calcaticcio. The church was inaugurated on Ascension Day in 1641 at the behest of Pope Innocent X; for the occasion, a plenary indulgence was granted to all its visitors. Today, many other local mysteries surround the religious building: it particularly represents the Latin concept of aemulatio, where nature, with Fonte del Calcaticcio, and religion, with the sanctuary, become one with culture.
