The Nicola Vaccaj Theateris located near Tolentino's historic center. It is one of the best examples of theaters of the region; in fact, Marche is known for boasting almost a hundred historical theaters, all dating between the 18th and 19th century and often equipped with historical curtains. In Tolentino, the first events tied to theater have been documented since the 16th century, scattered all over the town. In the 18th century, thanks to Cardinal Carandini, the Aquila Theater was designed and later erected in 1797 on a project of Giuseppe Lucatelli. The theater was restored by Luigi Fontana in 1881 and, on that occasion, it was renamed and dedicated to Tolentino-born musician Nicola Vaccaj, who mastered the Vaccaj singing method. Today, it is considered one of the most active cultural hubs of the Marche hinterland.
