The imposing ramparts of Mogliano's medieval fortress serve as the entrance to the town's center. Besides its undoubted cultural value, the Rocca is also considered as one of the most remarkable panoramic points in the area. Built by Fildesmido, lord of Mogliano in 1215, it was demolished during the following century and then rebuilt by the people of Fermo in 1476. Despite being partially destroyed in the 16th century, it has remained a symbol of territorial identity for Mogliano, appearing on the seal of the town since 1374. At the end of the 17th century, the church of S. Maria del Suffragio was built on top of the fortress. Renovated by Pietro Augustoni at the end of the 18th century, it preserves two paintings by Pietro Simone Fanelli. From the Rocca you can also admire the Ex Ospedale di San Michele, the Autopalace, and Porta Roma, another access point to the old town; here, near the square, you should definitely visit the Apollo Theater, built to entertain the people of Mogliano and decorated by Luca Seri and Luigi Fontana.
The view of the Sibillini Mountains is absolutely unmatched.
