One of the most original and interesting national museums is located in Piazza della Libertà, in the historic center of Tolentino. The historic Palazzo Sangallo is home to the MIUMOR - International Museum of Humor in Art, a one of its kind in Italy and one of the very few in the world. The Museum, a standout for the city, was founded in 1970 by Luigi Mari, mayor of Tolentino from 1951 to 1960. Revered for his social and artistic values, he wanted to create and strengthen the city's identity. Mari endowed Tolentino with services and infrastructures, but his greatest intuition was to establish the Biennale of Humor in Art (BIUMOR - still active), hosting the greatest national artists of the time, such as Bruno Molaioli, Mino Maccari and Mario Rivosecchi. In 1970, he inaugurated the Museum of Caricature.
It was created to preserve the art pieces of the BIUMOR exhibition and today has over 4000 works including prints, drawings, engravings and even sculptures. An outright ‘secret place’ of art that everyone can appreciate for its liveliness, originality and uniqueness.
It's impossible not to be ecstatic!
