Petriolo is one of the best-preserved fortified towns in the Marche region. The urban plan of the town center, with its narrow and intimate alleys, recalls the ancient splendors of the medieval period. This small ‘jewel' of a village, despite its small size, overflows with history, art and culture. Important figures that rose to national historical and cultural fame were born and raised in Petriolo: among them, we mention the famous artist and writer Giovanni Ginobili who, in 1963, published the Glossary of Macerata and Petriolo dialects, one of the most fascinating works for local culture, also appreciated in the academic context.
Diego De Minicis was also a prominent Italian sculptor and painter, to whom the Diego De Minicis Museum is dedicated. The building, notably desired by the artist's descendants and the Municipality of Petriolo, exhibits works and from the De Minicis artistic production lab, who died prematurely in the Russian Battle of the Don in 1942. Among the many works, the museum boasts some busts, clay artifacts, drawings and sketches, particularly one of Filippo Corridoni's Monument in Corridonia.
