Among the outstanding historical-artistic assets of the Marche Region, a seat of honor belongs to Piazza Filippo Corridoni, named after the well-known and revolutionary trade unionist. The square is located in the territory of the ancient site of Pausulae, a Roman settlement known in the Middle Ages as Moltolmo and, since 1931, Corridonia, to honor its proudest citizen. The square is a one of its kind in the territory: inaugurated in 1936, it represents the city's main aggregation center, flaunting its unique Rationalist style.
The Town Hall, the Monument to the Fallen erected on a marble fountain and the Monument dedicated to Filippo Corridoni, created by artists Oddo Aliventi, Giuseppe Marrani and Pirro Francalancia, are appreciated for their facades; notably, the artists kept in mind the golden section proportions and the volumetric asset of the Romanesque and Neoclassical architecture.
The buildings were incorporated into the original medieval urban plan: in fact, the square stands on the area formerly occupied by Piazza Castello, dating back to the Middle Ages. The medieval church of San Francesco, the oldest in the entire historic center, is a symbol of this historical phase.
Associazione Culturale La Margutta is the keeper of Corridonia's medieval history; all the historical re-enactments of the city are curated by the association and it will happily meet with travelers to delve into the local custom and traditions (https://www.rievocazioni.net/associazione/79/associazione-contesa-della-margutta.html).
